Zoe & Ed’s Destination Wedding in Castello Di Gargonza, Italy – The Morning

Castello Di Gargonza, Arezzo Wedding VenueI don’t think we’ve ever been so excited to wake up and shoot a wedding! I mean, we always love shooting our wonderful weddings, but this one in particular got us all fired up with ideas of what we could shoot since we had a good look at the place the night before. Things didn’t kick off until later in the afternoon, so we spent even more time being transported back in time in this village, time is never wasted in Castello Di Gargonza, we could walk through a hundreds times and still spot something we didn’t see before. With the terracotta  doors, the pretty flowers dotted around the place, the magnificent stone buildings and views of the typically Tuscan trees, we didn’t want to be anywhere else, the perfect spot for a destination wedding. And would you believe it, July in Italy and it poured with rain, rumbled with thunder and flashed with lightning! It didn’t stop us and definitely didn’t take away from the magic. This is our second destination wedding (third if you can count Ireland?) and as expected we’ve caught the destination bug! As wedding photographers, wedding venues are always something to get excited about with our job, it’s a different back drop, a different scene and it always has something new and special to offer. Here’s you’ll see the preparations for the ceremony ahead. Zoe & Ed’s Destination Wedding in Castello Di Gargonza, Italy – The Ceremony & Portraits

Wedding Ceremony in Castello Di Gargonza

When we learned the history behind this fortified medieval village, it made this wedding and these photos just that little bit more special. Castello Di Gargonza dates back as far as 1150! It even played host to Dante Aligheri (a famous Italian poet known as just Dante) in 1303. Having a history spent cultivating the woods and wool production as well as crop farming, when the twentieth century came,  the community left this little village seeking a better life in the nearby cities. By 1970, Roberto Guicciardini Corsi Salviati took it upon himself to save this wondrous place and began to restore the buildings and the church, but left pieces of the past community in the details such as the burnt fireplaces, the tiny windows, the crooked staircases and much more historic gems, even naming the houses after their previous owners. His son, Neri, now runs the place and lives on site, helping guests to feel as at home as possible. This magical place has a magical story and we hope to visit there again one day. It’s a place you’re surely never to forget.

Now you know that, you can enjoy the ceremony 🙂

Zoe & Ed’s Destination Wedding in Castello Di Gargonza, Italy – The Reception

Castello Di Gargonza Wedding Venue, Destination Wedding Photographer

That’s right, Castello Di Gargonza also has a restaurant on site called La Torre Di Gargonza, where the reception was held. This restaurant can cater to anyone’s style from modern to vintage, it has the bricks and timber at the ready! Covered in windows to feel like you’re outside, and when the sun goes down, the pretty fairy lights create the perfect atmosphere for dancing outside. What more could you ask for?
