We saw Hannah transform from the dazzling bride in white into the beautifully bright and bold colours of her kimono. The process of dressing her in these luxurious garments took a lot of time! It was rather fascinating to see the hand work, wrapping her up tight, making intricate bows, an art form really.
All ready for the ceremony, which is known as Kagami Biraki, the married couple make their way to the sake barrel where they will, together, break it open with a hammer and serve it to all the guests. This brings good luck.
Sake is made from fermented rice and it’s sometimes called rice wine. I can tell you from experience, it’s subtly strong… Makes no sense? That’s the only way I can describe it!
